I met with my surgeon last Thursday morning. I signed consent forms, agreed to have my surgery broadcast for high school students and college students to watch, asked about any type of drains (none, thank god; my mom has scared me with the story of how horribly painful it was for her to have a Penrose drain removed), and then went to the anesthesia clinic. I filled out paperwork, met with a nurse’s assistant, a nurse, and then the physician himself. I emphasized and re-emphasized my morphine sensitivity (side effects: lapsing in an out of consciousness, vertigo, nausea, vomiting for 12 hours after it being administered in my IV). So the plan is to use as little morphine as possible, administer anti-nausea and anti-vomiting meds at the same time, and to also give me a spinal epidural with alternative medications.
This morning the surgical weight loss clinic called me to let me know that Capital BlueCross finally approved my pre-auth for surgery. I know, it “only” took them a week to do it, but dammit, I’m impatient, and I got even more anxious when I heard from others and the insurance resp themselves that approval “usually” only takes a few days.
I missed the call because my phone was in the bedroom, but that’s probably a good thing, because when I played the voicemail I started crying. It’s really happening, you know? It’s really happening.
