Now I’m starting to get excited.
Hello there. My name is Jenn (you may know me from my personal blog, Jenn.nu), and on November 18th, 2009, I had gastric bypass surgery. At my heaviest, I was 331 lbs. On the day of my surgery, I was 286 lbs. This blog has chronicled my journey from when I first made the decision to have weight loss surgery -- back in 2008 -- to when I had it -- 2009 -- and how my weight and life have changed since then.

Me again…haha!
I have a question. I know we have different insurance companies, but I noticed on your steps page that you are required to have the sleep apnea test preformed. Have you done that? I am pretty sure I have sleep apnea, my twin brother does and he also had gastric bypass 2 years ago.
I don’t think I have to have that test but I do have to show 12months of supervised weight loss.. SIGH! I have been on WW since January and was told to include my slim fast diet before WW. I hope that is enough!! What stree all of this is…
Hi Sherri! I don’t know if the sleep apnea test is required or not. I know that it’s on the list of things I might have to take, depending upon my medical history. My grandmother had sleep apnea and my mother is showing signs of it, so I don’t know if that’ll require me to take one or not.
In terms of showing supervised weight loss, I believe my insurance company just needs the six month weight loss/nutrition management program that the center I am going to requires for the lap band surgery.
And yes, I hear you on the stress! I feel on edge about this constantly!
LOL.. I’m so stressed I didn’t spell it correctly..haha
Thanks for responding. I know the hospital I plan on having me surgery doesn’t require the 6 months supervised dieting, only my insurance. I’m attending a 8 hour orientation next week which includes the insurance process, dietary prep, clinical education, pre operative testing, and a meeting individually with the surgeon.. Long day, but well worth the information. The hospital does reguire me to attend 2 pre operation bariatric surgery support group meetings over a three month period.
Thanks again!
Sherri
